Available Facilities
The Institute of Biotechnology though is young has basic resources and facilities which has been possessed through the course of time. Even if the resources available are not fully sufficient, it is supposed that the Institute will acquire the remaining resources in the coming years as the government of Ethiopia has given attention to improve the quality of both secondary and tertiary education.
Class Room
The physical facilities of the Institute are supposed to be increased in the coming years. Currently the physical facilitates include Institute office, central library (at campus level), laboratories and classrooms
Laboratory
Institute laboratories are divided in to three: Molecular biology laboratory, cell/tissue culture laboratory and bioinformatics laboratory. The Molecular biology laboratory is meant for molecular biology, microbiology, biochemistry, gene technology, immunology and medical biotechnology
Additional Service
It has basic equipment designed to support basic practical activities listed for the above subjects. Some of the equipment includes the PCR machine, UV- transilluminator, gel electrophoresis, ELISA reader, laminar air flow fume hood, UV- spectrophotometer, column chromatography, high speed centrifuges and autoclaves. On the other hand, the cell and tissue culture laboratory is equipped with laboratory equipment such as CO2 incubator, inverted microscope, growth chambers, laminar air flow cabinet, vortex mixer and other necessary facilities for tissue culture techniques. In the mean time the bioinformatics laboratory is equipped with personnel computers with desirable bio-analytical soft wares. And also the construction of the green house and acclimatization tunnel is under way.
